5G networks are complex and this includes optimizing to customer needs. To do this at scale, 5G providers must consider extending their E2E services via network slicing from the end-user to the edge and cloud. Network slicing unlocks new monetization possibilities and help providers reach the full potential of 5G. Each network slice can be isolated without sacrificing performance, ultimately delivering enhanced security and end-user experience. Virtual data centers can use slice fabrics to fit each slice’s unique needs and network characteristics giving operators the benefits of a distributed cloud architecture adaptable to multi-vendor environments. The mobile traffic within a slice flows in an end-to-end stream, guaranteeing optimized, secure physical to virtual 5G connection. Open source implementations have tamed this complexity through work in standards and are becoming increasingly accessible to service providers and enterprises alike. In this presentation, we will discuss the advantages of open source network slicing for helping deploy 5G connectivity and service tailoring without suffering the prohibitive financial strain of 5G integration and operation.
